I’m inspired today by the strides made by Purple Office Production’s Chief Creative Officer/Head Writer, Stephanie Nickerson. We’ve been wrestling a brilliant concept to the ground for about two years now. It was Stephanie’s original idea during the covid lockdown and now two (or three) years later, the nut has been cracked and all kinds of magic is pouring out. It’s been a hard-fought battle with each new draft met with excitement and promise, until our harsh critic (ourselves) days later, ends up finding it wanting, pushing us to do even better.
Countless hours have been invested in this idea. We’ve reached threshold after threshold when we thought that we were “there,” when we thought that we had arrived only to hear the humbling snicker from the anti-muse. There is so little to be controlled in the industry right now, but one thing we all control is how we approach our task, our work, and our job of evolving as a creator and elevating our property, iteration after iteration after iteration. And frankly, sometimes this process isn’t fun! Having a “belief partner” really helps.
Stephanie and I are fortunate that we’ve built a company based on excellence and belief. Neither are blind. Excellence comes from the carefully curated choices that we make and the skills that we are constantly developing. Belief comes from each other and the culture that we’ve created to support that belief, especially when the process is a grind. We’ve also been fortunate to attract other key players into this circle of belief and together we’re making things happen. Do you have a “belief buddy?” Do you work in an organization that believes in you and shows it?
We can’t control the ultimate outcome of our properties but we can be honest with ourselves in what needs to be done, do it in a fully supportive environment and be so darn good at what we do that we can get the property to its best self — and that can turn blue into green (lights).
Be absolutely infinite,
Cheryl
